First Grade

August 15th-19th

The students and I warmed up with a brain dance to Enya’s “Astra Et Luna.” The Brain Dance is a series of 8 developmental movements all healthy humans use in the first years of life.  Research has shown these movements help to reorganize the central nervous system and increases blood and oxygen flow to the circulatory and respiratory systems. We then worked with high and low by singing “Bee, Bee Bumblebee.” Students then demonstrated they understood the difference between high and low by creating high and low movements to Edward Greig’s “Hall of the Mountain King.” I then read The Squiggle and discussed vocal exploration with the kids by using a jump rope to create different ‘squiggly’ lines. Students used their voices to sing the lines.
